Salda Lake

White-sand crater lake 120 km from the hotel — Turkey's 'Maldives'. 2 h drive each way, full-day excursion.

Salda Lake

Salda Lake (Salda Gölü) is a deep glacial crater lake in Burdur Province, nicknamed "Turkey's Maldives" for its brilliant white shore (actually mineral hydromagnesite) and turquoise water. NASA has studied Salda as a geological analogue to Mars' Jezero crater.

How to get there: 120 km from Sinter Terasse Hotel, about 2 hours drive each way. Best with a rental car or driver.

What to do: Walk the 'white beach' on the north-east shore, swim in designated areas, picnic. The mineral sand is protected — do not take any home.

Best time: May–October for swimming.
